Intensive Creative Writing Weekend

The creative writing weekend is designed for writers who want to learn the craft of exceptional storytelling in an intensive setting. In a two-day workshop, students learn to master the qualities that make for engaging fiction and the techniques used by writers in crafting stories and imagining characters. Lessons are reinforced through in-class writing exercises.

Individual one-on-one sessions are for writers working on their novels. Alaa Al Aswany will read the novel, suggest revisions and areas for reinforcing the literary work, and train writers on the elements for more compelling story writing.

Reading Fiction

The art of writing begins with reading critically.
This workshop teaches the tools to appreciate literary works and learn from accomplished writers from around the world. Students learn to interpret fiction, recognize underlying themes, decipher writing techniques, and analyze the human content of each story.

Fiction and Short Story Writing

The magic of imagination takes us to new worlds and into the lives of characters.
This workshop course teaches the essential story writing elements: creating a compelling opening, organizing the structure, weaving in tension and plot twists, implementing flashback and viewpoint, and mastering the art of dialogue. Students learn techniques for crafting fiction, conceiving colorful characters, and developing ways of bringing imagination and intrigue into a literary work.

التذوق الأدبي
في هذا الفصل يتعلم الطلبة قواعد التذوق الأدبي ويدرسون مجموعة من الأعمال الأدبية الكلاسيكية والحديثة لكبار الأدباء. سوف يتعلم الطلاب الطرق المختلفة للتحليل الأدبى بعناصره الخمسة (قصة ــ شخصيات ــ أسلوب ـــ حبكة ـــ محتوى انساني) وسيتمرنون على القراءة النقدية المقارنة بين النصوص المختلفة ... هذا الفصل بمثابة اعداد أساسي لكل من يريد دراسة الكتابة الإبداعية.

في هذا الفصل يتعلم الطلبة العناصر الأساسية للقصة القصيرة ويتمرنون على تقنيات الكتابة المختلفة : التشكيل الخيالي وخلق الشخصيات الحية وصناعة بداية مثيرة وتنظيم البنية في النص الأدبي ، استعمال أسلوب التذكر والوصف الضمني والحوار المركز المحمل بالدلالات .سوف يكتب كل طالب في الفصل 3 قصص قصيرة ومقالا نقديا خلال 10 أسابيع وسوف يتولى الأستاذ والطلاب مناقشة كل طالب في عمله الأدبي وتقديم الملاحظات والنصائح التى تساعده على تجويد الكتابة.
